U.S. President Barack Obama gave his rah, rah type speech to students today. While there has been controversy over his speech, with conservatives forgetting how their hero Ronald Reagan met with students during his term, Obama did nothing to "indoctrinate" students, but rather encouraged them to work hard.Additionally, a number of conservative pundits have spoken up in support of Barack Obama's speech to students in the last few days, including Newt Gingrich, Laura Bush, and Rudy Giuliani.
Obama met with a group of approximately 40 students at the library of Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA, prior to the controversial nationwide speech. His motorcade across the Potomac River was greeted by a small band of protesters. One carried a sign more deserved by a sex offender than the President of the United States: "Mr. President, stay away from our kids."
During his meeting, one young person asked why the country doesn't have universal health insurance. "I think we need it. I think we can do it," Obama replied. This question shows that despite what conservatives may think, children are on top of the news and know what's morally important.
