Neo-Nazi group wants May 5 to be "Report an Illegal Day"

The National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi organization, has begun circulating fliers which aim to change May 5th into "Report an Illegal Day."

The date picked is no mistake: it's Cinco de Mayo.

According to a local news report, the group's website states that the National Socialist Movement wants each member to hand out 25 fliers. A Phoenix police office told the local station they are looking into the flier.

"Illegal Alien" Halloween Costume Draws Fire

Apparently, this is meant to be funny, but immigrants and immigrant rights groups are not finding it so. It's an illegal alien immigrant costume, and it was available at Target's website (click the above image to see a screenshot of their post), which has since taken it down. Many other retailers are still selling it.

The costume current still appears online at walgreens.com, amazon.com, meijer.com and buycostumes.com.

"We didn't mean to sell it!" is essentially what Target said, using the excuse that the costume was added to its website by mistake. You can expect that will be the answer offered by a number of online retailers as they try to explain why this offensive costume appeared on their sites. However, it's probably also true that you could find this costume at brick-and-mortar retailers, too.

Target spokesman Joshua Thomas said:
"This is not in keeping with our brand. This was inadvertently uploaded to Target.com. It was never intended to be part of our original assortment. This costume was never seen in our review process."
Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, said in an e-mail to Target that the costume was “distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant of social stigmas and current debate on immigration reform.”

Customers weren't so happy with the costume either. Prior to item being taken down from Target's site, you could have seen that reviews were not kind. One anonymous customer wrote: "The costume is a sick sign of the times we are living in this country where those who are not 'people like us' might as well be from another planet and are considered less than human."

Airline Employees Indicted for Illegal Immigrant Smuggling

The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday in a statement that two ticket agent contractors who worked for Delta Airlines and a luggage handler have been indicted on charges of conspiracy to smuggle illegal immigrants into the U.S. The three were indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The statement said that the two agents allegedly sold tickets to illegal immigrants. All three are accused of helping an unspecified number of illegal immigrants bypass customs officials from May 2008 to July 2009.

The ticket agents, identified as Diana Telemaque, 33, and Felicia Browne, 22, were arrested Thursday along with luggage handler Daniel Confidente. The suspects were released on $10,000 bail and face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Delta airlines said that the contractors, employed by another company, have been dismissed.
