In 37 Minutes, Scott Roeder Found Guilty Of Abortion Doctor Murder

Scott Roeder, who had freely admitted killing prominent Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has been found guilty, after only 37 minutes of jury deliberation. He said he killed Tiller to protect unborn children.

The jury found Scott Roeder, 51, guilty of premeditated, first-degree murder. He now faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Roeder testified during the trial that he shot Dr. George Tiller in the head on May 31, 2009 because he believed Tiller posed an "immediate danger" to unborn children. The shooting took place at Tiller's Wichita, KS church.

Earlier, Scott Roeder's attorneys had tried to get him a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. However, the judge ruled that the jury could not consider such a verdict.

In her closing arguments, prosecutor Ann Swengel said, "His testimony was delivered very matter-of-factly, but its contents were chillingly horrific. He carried out a planned assassination, and there can be no other verdict in this case, other than guilty."

On Christmas Eve, Salvation Army Worker Killed In Front Of His Children

'Tis the season for the Salvation Army to try to get as many donations as possible, in those old familiar red kettles. Sadly, on Christmas Eve, no less, a Salvation Army worker was shot and killed in front of his three young children by a man who was attempting to rob him. The incident took place outside the charity's community center in North Little Rock, Arkansas, a Salvation Army official said Friday.

Police said that they are looking for the two men who accosted Salvation Army Maj. Philip Wise, 40, outside the community center about 4 PM Thursday. So far, no arrests have been made.

Wise had gone to the community center with his children to pick up his wife, Cindy, who is also a Salvation Army major. They were to drive to his mother's home in West Virginia. As he neared the side door, two men approached him, carrying handguns.

One of the men demanded money and shot Wise. Cindy Wise, inside the center, called 911. The Wises had just adopted their children last year. They are aged 4, 6 and 8, and are siblings who came from an abusive family.

Wise was originally from Weirton, West Virgina, and his wife, Cindy, was from Charleston, West Virginia. They met 16 years ago at a Salvation Army school in Atlanta. Both had worked for the Salvation Army ever since.

Man Discovers Charles Manson His Biological Father

How would you like to discover that one of the most infamous murderers and cult leaders of all time is your father? Just ask Matthew Roberts, a 41-year-old Los Angelese DJ.

Roberts grew up in Rockford, Illinois, but only discovered he was adopted when his sister told him at age 10. His adoptive father tole him "nothing good" would come of discovering who his real parents were, but Roberts pursued the issue, and used a social services agency to locate his mother, Terry.

At first, she refused to tell him the name of his father, although she told him his birth name was Lawrence Alexander. Eventually, she gave in and revealed his father was Charles Manson, who she claimed raped her in 1967 after she had become "trapped" in his cult. Worse, his mother told Roberts that "You look just like him."

While hearing that is bad enough, Roberts is afraid he may have inherited some of the characteristics of his father. Still, he says he is a gentle person, who would not even kill an insect. He has not spoken to his father, although he has corresponded with him and has a number for him at San Quentin prison.
"If I did talk to Charlie on the phone, I would say, 'I truly understand what it's like to be you, more than anyone could ever imagine on so many levels.' He's my biological father; I can't help but have some kind of emotional connection. That's the hardest thing of all, feeling love for a monster who raped my mother. I don't want to love him, but I don't want to hate him either."

"Fat Defense" Murder Suspect Convicted

Edward Ates (ironic name, yes?), the man who used the "Fat Defense" in his murder trial, has been convicted by a New Jersey jury. Ates had argued he was too obese to commit the murder.

The eight men and four women did not agree. Ates' argument was that at his weight and age (62, 5'8" and 285 lbs. at the time of the murder), he didn't have the energy to accurately shoot Paul Duncsak, 40, from a location on the staircase at Duncsak's home in August 2006. Duncsak had been shot six times at his home in Ramsey, about 25 miles northwest of New York. Ates noted that his weight has led to several ailments, including asthma.

According to the prosecutors, Ates, whose daughter was involved in a custody dispute with Duncsak, drove from Florida to New Jersey, shot and killed Duncsak, then drove 21 hours to his mother's house in Louisiana, prosecutors said.

One piece of evidence against Ates was testimony from Ates' sister, Brenda, in which she admitted that she lied to authorities about when Edward Ates arrived in Louisiana, as he asked her to do. Brenda Ates has already pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution, but is not expected to get prison time when she is sentenced.

The judge in the case, State Superior Court Judge Harry G. Carroll, set sentencing for Dec. 17 and revoked Ates' bail.

"Cyber Graffiti" Threatens Va. Tech

As if the university has not suffered enough, a form of "cyber graffiti" has been used to threaten the campus of Virginia Tech (VT). VT sent out an on-campus advisory Thursday morning after threats were posted in a video on YouTube.

The mashup video includes threatening comments made on several videos of VT gunman Seung-Hui Cho. It was posted on the YouTube page of someone using the screen name "NextKillerVirgTech." That account has since been deleted.

According to the site, the page had been created on Oct. 21 by a 21-year-old living in the United States. It's unclear if any of that information is correct, but authorities currently believe it is likely the posting occurred overseas.

The message sent out by VT reads:
Virginia Tech Police have observed a You Tube posting making threats against the Virginia Tech community. We have received no direct threats at the university. The Virginia State Police and the FBI are assisting the university police. Currently, law enforcement believes the comments may have originated overseas. They are continuing their investigation. We will post again if new information emerges.
In April of 2007, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 students and faculty members on campus, before killing himself.

Teenagers Light 15-Year-Old on Fire Over $40

Jeremy Jarvis, 13 (L) and his brother Denver Colorado Jarvis, 15, via Miami Herald.
What has the world turned into? A group of five Broward County, FL teenagers lit another 15-year-old on fire, burning 80% of his body. The reason cited was revenge: money owed ($40) for a video game and the thwarted theft of the victim's father's bike.

The victim is Michael Brewer, 15. The accused, all about the same age as Brewer, are Michael Bent, 15; Denver Colorado Jarvis, 15; his brother Jeremy Jarvis, 13; Steven Shelton, 15; and Jesus Mendez, 15.

Brewer owed Bent the money for the video game. The attempted theft of Brewer's father's bicycle was in retaliation, but failed, and both boys were absent from school. Brewer feared retaliation; Bent stayed home after his stint in juvenile detention.

The incident took place at the Lime Street Apartments at 429 SE 13th Ct. where Brewer went to see a friend. All five of the other boys were there as well, and after opportunistically grabbing a bottle of rubbing alcohol that they found along a wall, Bent gave the order: "Pour it on him. Pour it on him."

Denver Jarvis poured the alcohol on Brewer, and Mendez used a lighter to set Brewer on fire. Because of his actions in the incident, Mendez has been charged with second degree attempted murder; all 5 boys are charged with aggravated battery.

What's worse is that Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) spokesperson Sgt. Steve Feeley said that remorse was not generally felt among the 5: "A couple of them last night were laughing about it," he said Tuesday.

A still unanswered question: why do kids resort to this type of behavior? While definitely not common, it's also not rare. Why not simply go to the parents of the person you felt "offended" you?

Pistol-Packin' (Soccer) Mama Found Dead in Murder - Suicide

Meleanie Hain, the woman who felt it was necessary to openly wear a handgun to her daughter's soccer game, has been found dead, shot to death by her husband in an apparent murder-suicide. The word ironic is simply insufficient.

While Hain had a carry permit, taking a gun to a children's soccer game was simply over-the-top to many. It is hard to visualize any reason to do so. In fact, her carry permit was revoked, and later restored by Lebanon County Sheriff Michael DeLeo.

Meleanie Hain later sued DeLeo in federal court, seeking reimbursement of attorneys’ fees and costs, emotional distress and lost wages. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence then offered to defend DeLeo for free.

At the time, Daniel Vice, a senior attorney for the Brady Center, said:
"It is a case that calls out for common sense. ... It’s ridiculous to bring a gun to a child’s soccer game."
Common sense is something lost on many of people who feel that the Second Amendment gives them the right to carry a gun anywhere. A hearing on Hain’s suit was postponed in May after one of the attorneys in the case was involved in an auto accident.

Recently, however, Meleanie Hain told her attorney, Matthew Weisberg, that she and her husband were separating and that she wanted to remove his name from the $1 million lawsuit. The irony was not lost on him, eihter, as Weisberg said "It's shocking. And sadly ironic."

Over a Thousand Mourners Attend Derrion Albert's Funeral

More than a thousand mourners packed a South Side Chigago church on Saturday. Sadly, they were there for Derrion Albert's funeral. Albert was a 16-year-old honor student with no gang affiliations. He was an innocent bystander who was killed in violence between two gang factions of students from Christian Fenger Academy High School.

Derrion Albert's funeral attracted not just family and friends, but officials and community leaders, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson. His violent death on Sept. 24th was captured on video, and has drawn national attention.

Four have been arrested in his killing, and police are seeking three more. Those arrested are Eugene Bailey, 18, who police say threw the "killer blow," Silvonus Shannon, 19, Eugene Riley, 18, and Eric Carson, 16.

It's been reported that it was the youngest of the four, Eric Carson, who was allegedly from the gang faction near Fenger, which was the first to hit Derrion Albert with a railroad tie. Albert then fell, and was additionally hit by more railroad tie blows and kicks, as well. A $6,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to more arrests in the Derrion Albert's beating death.

The story has become big, so big that Barack Obama is sending some important people to Chicago next week. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Attorney General Eric Holder will visit on Thursday to talk with officials from the school, the students and the community about school violence.

Before Derrion Albert's funeral, Jesse Jackson spoke to reporters.
"The killings keep coming -- one need not to be guilty to be killed in this war zone. We must declare a state of emergency. We have an obligation to prepare for our children safe passage."
He's right. Otherwise, Derrion Albert's funeral won't be the last one we see.

Three Arrested in Derrion Albert Beating Death

Three have been arrested in the case of Derrion Albert's beating death, which was caught on tape and which I wrote about earlier. The three have have been charged with first-degree murder and will be tried as adults.

Silvonus Shannon, 19, Eugene Riley, 18, and Eric Carson, 16, have been charged in last Thursday's death of Derrion Albert, 16, an honor student at Fenger High School in Chicago. Although the incident is believed gang-related, Albert has no gang affiliations.

Some believe Derrion Albert was beaten on his way home from school for refusing to join a gang. However, some witnesses say he was just a bystander swept into a violent fight as collateral damage.

Derrion Albert's beating death with wooden boards is depicted in a video that has been circulating on the Internet; police had been using that video to gather evidence.

It is disturbing to note that the youngest of the three, Eric Carson, who was allegedly from the gang faction near Fenger, was the first to hit Derrion Albert with a railroad tie. As he then struggled to stand and escape, Riley also hit him with a railroad tie and Shannon repeatedly stomped on his head. Both Riley and Shannon allegedly belong to a separate gang faction that lived in or near Altgeld Gardens.

Records show that the youngest, Carson is on probation for a robbery conviction. Shannon and Riley have no criminal records. Well, they have no criminal records until the Derrion Albert murder. I hope they will be convicted and have a long stretch in prison.

Today was the first day Fenger High School has been open since Derrion Albert's murder. All Chicago public schools were closed Friday for a staff day. A march and vigil for Albert, organized by his family, was held at 1 PM outside Fenger. Originally, the vigil had been planned for Sunday, but Albert's family agreed to postpone it at the request of the Chicago Public Schools.

Chicago Teenager's Beating Death Caught on Video

Another example of gang violence, but one horrifically caught on tape. Sadder, the beating victim had no gang affiliation.

High School students from Fenger High School have to take this to heart. Derrion Albert, 16, was beaten to death as a sort of "collateral damage" in an incident involving two rival gangs.

No knives and no guns were used in last Thursday's fight. Just fists, feet and boards, and Derrion Albert was struck in the head by one of those boards. He hit the pavement, and at that point, witnesses say gang members began stomping on and punching him.

Albert was an honor student and had no gang affiliation, as I said. Now, he is a sad statistic.

Police have video footage, but no faces are shown, and thus they have released the video in hopes someone can ID Derrion Albert's assailants, or rather, murderers. If you can identify any of the people allegedly involved in the death of Derrion Albert, please call Area Two of the Chicago Police Dept; the number is 312-747-8272.

Sparkman Found Naked, Bound, Gagged: Witness

More disturbing details continue to trick out in the apparent murder of Bill Sparkman, 51, part-time census worker who some feel was killed in an anti-government act. A witness has come forward and described the body, when found, as hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery naked, gagged, with hands and feet bound with duct tape.

The AP reported on Friday statements by Jerry Weaver of Fairfield, Ohio. He was among a group of relatives who discovered Bill Sparkman's body on Sept. 12.
"The only thing he had on was a pair of socks," Weaver said. "And they had duct-taped his hands, his wrists. He had duct tape over his eyes, and they gagged him with a red rag or something.

"And they even had duct tape around his neck. And they had like his identification tag on his neck. They had it duct-taped to the side of his neck, on the right side, almost on his right shoulder."
Given all this new information, it seems there is good reason to believe the killing of Bill Sparkman was based on anti-government sentiment.

While police would not officially confirm Weaver's statement, two people briefed on the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said various details of Weaver's account matched the crime scene. They confirmed that a Census ID badge was found taped to his head and shoulder area.

While no official statement has yet been made on the cause of Sparkman's death, there's no doubt in Weaver's mind on the question of suicide or murder. "He was murdered. There's no doubt."

"Very Serious Concern" That Census Worker Death Was Politically Motivated

AP reporter Devlin Barrett visited MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow" show Wednesday night to discuss the hanging death of a census worker in Kentucky. While tragic enough on its own, the fact that the word "fed" was drawn on his chest has led to the involvement of the FBI.

Here's part of the interview:
Barrett: What investigators found at the crime scene is obviously very disturbing. And what they're going through now is finding out exactly what happened to this person. [...]

Investigators have taken great pains both at the Kentucky State Police and the FBI to better understand exactly what happened. Obviously the details, the few details we know at this point are very disturbing, and could feed a larger political argument if this ends up being the result of anti-government sentiment. But they don't know that for absolute certain yet. And part of the investigators' job is to rule out any other explanation for what happened.

Maddow: And because the case has drawn the attention of federal law enforcement, because the statement by the FBI spokesman today, that's of course the reason that this is at the top of a national newscast right now. [...] Is there any way to know even whether federal law enforcement getting involved is an indication tha they think that (anti-government sentiment) might be true?"

Barrett: "I don't think federal law enforcement would still be involved a week and a half after the body was found if there wasn't still that very serious concern. And they don't have all the answers yet. And some of the things they know they're not going to tell us because they're concerned that there may be perpetrators out there that they would very much like to catch. But they don't know all these things for certain yet, and part of the process we're in now is proving all the other alternate explanations."

Maddow: One of the ways we figure out what's going on, even when they won't tell us, is by how agencies behave, and how one part of the government advises another part of the government to behave. Has the Census Bureau stopped any operations or sisued any warning to its workers as a result of this death?"

Barrett: "In the county where this death occurred, they have instructed their workers not to go door to door while this investigation continues. Clearly there's a great deal of concern within this census worker community in that area, and they would very much like to know exactly what happened."

Census Worker Found Hanging with "Fed" Written on His Chest

The FBI is investigating the hanging death of Bill Sparkman, 51, a U.S. Census field worker who was found near a Kentucky cemetery. His body was found Sept. 12th, but what has raised the interest of the FBI is the word "fed" which was scrawled on Sparkman's chest.

It's this new information that has raised this case to a national level. Original reports of Sparkman's death did not note the "fed" scrawling. At this point, it is unclear if the death was a murder or a suicide. Given the "fed" note, one must wonder if indeed this was a murder if the motive was related to anti-government sentiment.

Sept. 12th was the day that tea-baggers took to Washington, D.C. in protest of what they deem as overspending by the government, as well as too much government period.

While authorities seem unclear on the exact reason for Bill Sparkman's death, Census Bureau Executive Director Dr. Robert Groves, while notifying census employees of the incident by e-mail, seemed quite sure it was a crime.

He wrote that Sparkman “was the victim of an apparent crime and passed away this past weekend at the age of 51. I wanted all Census Bureau staff to know of this incident, and ask you to keep Mr. Sparkman’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Suicide would have seemed unlikely, if only because Bill Sparkman, who was also a substitute teacher, had also beaten non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was even profiled in a 2008 TimesTribune.com piece, which described how he entered teaching, first by volunteering at his son's school because of difficulties his son faced in the classroom.

Bill Sparkman worked for the Census since 2003. He covered five counties in the surrounding area. Officials indicated that much of his recent work had been in Clay County.

Teacher Stabbed to Death at Tyler, TX High School

Todd R. Henry, a music therapist for special needs students at John Tyler High School, was stabbed by a student earlier this morning. He later died, and the student has been taken into custody.

John Tyler High School serves grades 9-12 in the Tyler Independent School District. It has received a GreatSchools Rating of 3 out of 10, based on its state test results.

Todd R. Henry was stabbed around 8:50 AM, according to a statement on the Tyler Independent School District website. At the time of the incident, one teacher, one paraprofessional, and three students were in the classroom.

Although a student is in custody, his name has not been released. John Tyler High School was placed on lock-down just after the incident, and parents began picking up their children at 10:45 AM.

It was not the first time Todd R. Henry had been injured by a John Tyler High School student. He missed the first two weeks of school because he was recovering from surgery on a shoulder injured when he broke up a fight last year.

Tyler, TX is located about 95 miles southeast of Dallas. It has a population of 110,000.

Yale Lab Tech Raymond Clark III Arrested in Annie Le Murder

We already knew that Raymond Clark III, a 24-year-old Yale lab technician had been investigated in the Annie Le case, and released yesterday by the police, though labeled a "person of interest." Thursday police arrested and charged him with her murder.

Annie Le is the 24-year-old pharmacology doctoral student originally from Placerville, CA, whose body was stuffed in a research building wall after she was killed by traumatic asphyxiation. Her body was found on Sunday, on what was to be her wedding day to Columbia University graduate student Jonathan Widawsky.

Police arrested Raymond Clark at the Super 8 hotel in Cromwell, about 25 miles north of the Yale campus. Clark had been staying there since he was released early Wednesday by police.

Police would not comment on a possible motive, but called the an example of "workplace violence." New Haven Police Chief James Lewis said:
"It is important to note that this is not about urban crime, university crime, domestic crime but an issue of workplace violence, which is becoming a growing concern around the country."
Categorizing the crime as "not domestic" is interesting. While the fact that the crime occurred shortly before Annie Le's wedding day led some to believe it may have been a crime of passion, saying it was not a domestic crime would imply there was not an element of unrequited love in the incident.

Raymond Clark is the only person publicly named by New Haven police in the case. Annie Le's aforementioned fiance has been ruled out by authorities. Police served four search warrants this week to compare DNA taken from Clark with evidence collected at the crime scene on the Ivy League campus and from Clark's Middletown, Conn., apartment, where he lived with his fiancee, Jennifer Hromadka.

Police had theorized the crime was an "inside job" as the laboratory where Le was last seen on Tuesday required passcard access and had some 75 security cameras. Clark, his fiancee, his sister and his brother-in-law all work for Yale as animal lab technicians.

Execution Date Set for John Allen Muhammad, the D.C. Sniper

Mark Nov. 10th on your calendar. On Wednesday, Prince William County Circuit Judge Mary Grace O'Brien set that date for the execution of John Allen Muhammad, who with teenage accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo was was involved in the 2002 sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area that left 10 dead.

Muhammad was sentenced to death for the slaying of Dean Meyers, one of 10 people shot to death during a 2002 killing spree that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area. Malvo is serving life in prison for the murders.

The date was picked during an early morning conference call with the judge, the attorney general's office and Jonathan Sheldon, Muhammad's attorney. Originally the AG's office requested that the execution be on Nov. 9th, O'Brien chose a day later, Tuesday, in case courts are required to address last-minute appeals.

Sheldon said Muhammad will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court and ask Gov. Timothy M. Kaine for clemency. It is unlikely he will see any results from this. Last month, a federal appeals court rejected Muhammad's argument that prosecutors withheld critical evidence and that he never should have been allowed to act as his own attorney for a portion of his trial because he was mentally impaired.

Additionally, he and Lee Boyd Malvo were also suspected of shootings in several other states, including a killing in Louisiana and another in Alabama.

The rampage has also been called the Beltway Sniper killings, based on its proximity to I-495, an Interstate Highway that circles Washington, D.C. and its inner suburbs in Maryland and Virginia.

"Person of Interest" Released in Annie Le Case

All the talk about a laboratory technician as a person of interest in the case of the murder of Annie Le, a 24-year-old pharmacology doctoral student originally from Placerville, CA, seems to have some sort of validity. While police said yesterday that they didn't anyone targeted yet, they released a lab technician today after collecting DNA samples from him and searching his apartment.

Raymond Clark, a 24-year-old lab technician, left police custody with his lawyer at about 3 AM Wednesday. To be clear, Clark has not been charged in Yale student Annie Le's death. Her body was found stuffed behind a wall Sunday in a Yale laboratory building where both she and Clark worked. However, Police are calling him a "person of interest."

According to reports, police began staking out Raymond Clark's apartment on Monday, a day after the discovery of Annie Le's body hidden in the basement of a research building at Yale's medical school. She had vanished last Tuesday, Sept. 8. Surveillance videos showed her arriving, but not leaving the building.

Raymond Clark shares the apartment with his fiancee, Jennifer Hromadka. The couple is engaged to marry in December, 2011, according to reports of the couple's incomplete wedding Web site, since taken down. Middletown is about 20 miles north of New Haven, CT.

Originally, officials had promised to release an autopsy report on Annie Le's death on Tuesday. However, prosecutors blocked release of the results, concerned that releasing it could hinder the investigation.

Annie Le's body was found Sunday. Her remains had been stuffed into a wall recess where utilities and cables run between floors. Sadly, Sunday was the day she was supposed to be wed to Columbia University graduate student Jonathan Widawsky in New York City. Police have ruled him out as a suspect.

Police State No Suspect IDed Yet in Annie Le's Death

While some media outlets reported last night that police had identified a lab technician as a possible suspect in the death of Yale student Annie Le, police on Tuesday denied that they were close to an arrest.

In fact, the police seemed somewhat upset at the media speculation over a possible suspect. Annie Le, a 24-year-old pharmacology doctoral student originally from Placerville, CA was last seen on Tuesday of last week. Hers was the body found inside the wall of the same lab building she worked in.

Because of the security around the lab, which includes approximately 75 surveillance cameras as well as passcard access, some have labeled Annie Le's murder an "inside job." This could be the reason that some outlets have jumped to the possibility of a lab technician being a suspect in the Yale student's death.

New Haven police officer and spokesman Joe Avery said the following:
"You guys made up the fact that we had somebody in custody, the media in general. We're talking to a lot of people."
Ouch.

The state's chief medical examiner on Monday ruled Le's death a homicide. Autopsy results with a cause of death were expected to be released Tuesday afternoon.

Annie Le's death is the first killing at Yale since the still unsolved December 1998 death of Yale student Suzanne Jovin. The 21-year-old senior was stabbed 17 times in New Haven's East Rock neighborhood, which is located about 2 miles from campus.

Annie Le's Murder Likely an Inside Job: Police

Annie Le, the 24-year-old pharmacology doctoral student originally from Placerville, CA last seen on Tuesday of last week, has been identified as the body found inside the wall of the same lab building she worked in. The body was found in the wall chase, a deep recess where utilities and cables run between floors.

At the same time, police sought to calm fears on the Yale campus. Although police are unwilling to publicly name a suspect, NBC News reported that police have identified a student as a suspect in the killing, and that the suspect had defensive wounds and failed a polygraph test. The suspect has not been formally charged, but neither has he been released.

Police are emphasizing that it was not a random act, but a targeted one, and that thus others on campus should be calm and feel safe. In terms of the "inside job" theory, as the building where the body was found is accessible to Yale personnel with special passcards. Additionally, approximately 75 video surveillance cameras monitor all doorways.

The lab building where Annie Le was found was closed on Monday so police could complete their investigation. When the building reopens, there will be extra security both inside and outside.

Police found Le's body about 5 PM Sunday, the day she was originally to marry Columbia University graduate student Jonathan Widawsky on Long Island. Police have said Widawsky is not a suspect and helped detectives in their investigation.

The university planned a candlelight vigil for Monday evening.
