Congrats to the Webster Groves Statesmen!

Congratulations to Webster Groves High School, who won the MSHAA State Class 5 Football Championship today at the Edward Jones Dome versus Fort Osage High School.

Webster Groves is a clinical site for our program, where Head Athletic Trainer Sean Wright serves as an approved clinical instructor.  Students Heather King and Ann Schmerbauch had a thrilling fall working with the Statesmen.

High School Football Player Charged With Assault for Head-Butting Helmetless Opponent

An Arlington Catholic High School football player has been charged with assault and battery after head-butting a helmet-less opposing player in a game on Sept. 19th. The head-butt was captured on video (below).

In the video, you can see 17-year old James LaShoto head-butting Dan Curtin, 16 (shown), whose helmet had come off. Curtin told local TV station WBZ:

"I didn't know what was happening... he pushed my helmet off, the next thing I knew I was covered in blood."

LaShoto is a team captain at Arlington Catholic and a member of the National Honor Society. Very little honor in that move, however.

"Act justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with God" is the motto of Arlington Catholic High School. It does not appear that LaShoto followed any of that.

Friday Night Lights!

The SLU Athletic Training Education Program is fortunate to have added a new clinical site at Webster Groves High School. Their athletic trainer, Sean Wright, also teaches at the school and is an excellent clinical instructor for the program. Heather King and Ann Schmerbauch are the students assigned to the site and they are having a great experience. The Statesmen beat Rockwood Summit 35-14 in their opening game.

River City Rage set for First Home Game

The SLU Athletic Training Education Program is proud to provide Athletic Training Services, through Jason Bennett MSPT, SCS, ATC, for the River City Rage. They currently are 2-0 in league play and have their first regular season home game on Saturday, April 4, 2009 versus the Saginaw Sting at 7:30 pm in St. Charles, MO at the Family Arena.

Football Field Trip

St. Louis Rams Head Athletic Trainer Jim Anderson and his staff rolled out the red carpet for our students today at Rams Park. Not only did our students get an extensive tour of their facilities, but the Athletic Training Staff gave our students a good idea of what NFL Athletic Trainers do every week and the kind of equipment and supplies they use. It is great to have colleagues such as Jim and his staff in our community.

Countdown to kickoff

We would like to welcome all of our students back to SLU as they move in and classes start on August 25th. This is an exciting time for all of us!

Speaking of kickoff, things are going well in our students' first clinical rotations with football at Washington University. Darcy Downey, our clinical coordinator, took some "action shots" of our students.

Thumbs Up!

Clinical rotations begin August 11th with pre-season football practice at Washington University. The students are wrapping up summer classes in Gross Anatomy and Principles of Athletic Training. They are busy practicing clinical competencies that will allow them to function well at this rotation.

Our students are getting ready for the football season by practicing use of the spine board. The "subject" felt well taken care of....

Summer football heating things up!

Its a typical steamy St. Louis summer weekend and our program is covering the Free Football and Life Skills Camp sponsored by Youth Lifeline America on the campus of Harris-Stowe State University. The camp is staffed by many NFL football players and other football coaches. They not only teach football, but other skills that the campers with use the rest of their lives.
