Kanye West, prior to apologizing on Jay Leno, had already posted two different apologies on his website. The first was a bit verbose, and included "explanations," or perhaps "justifications," but was replaced with a more succinct post.
For those who missed the big news, when Taylor Swift won a VMA, her first, for Best Female Video, Kanye West grabbed the mike from her and said "Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" Everyone, including Beyonce, looked befuddled. Nicely, when Beyonce won later for Video of the Year, she invited Swift onstage to deliver her interrupted acceptance speech.
At any rate, Kayne West did apologize on Jay Leno last night. He said (whether truly contrite or not) that “I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong.” Then came the most awkward moment of the interview, Leno asked West what he thought his late mother, who died in 2007, would have thought.
What followed was a long period of uncomfortable silence, prefaced by an "um." Leno prodded him, asking if he thought his mother would lecture him. He didn't say much about that, but said that "his hurt" had not been addressed by taking any time off, as he probably should have, and he was sorry his hurt caused someone else hurt.
In the midst of Kayne West's apology on Jay Leno, he did add one thing: he said he would like to apologize directly to Taylor Swift. What do you readers think? As far as you are concerned, is all forgiven?
