Thirty Percent of New Jersey's GOP Voters Think Obama Could Be the AntiChrist

Public Policy Polling asked another of their rather bizarre questions, this time to New Jersey residents, and the results show extremism and looniness on both sides of the aisle.

Examples:

• 8% of all voters think Barack Obama is the AntiChrist
• 13% are unsure
• Of conservatives, 14% think Barack Obama is the AntiChrist
• Of conservatives, 15% are unsure

Ah, but it's not isolated to the right. 19% of voters in the state, including 32% of Democrats, think that George W. Bush had prior knowledge of 9/11, the so-called "truther" belief.

Snopes has already debunked the AntiChrist argument, which is frequently spread by emails similar to this:

According to the Book of Revelations the anti-christ is: The anti-christ will be a
man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuassive
language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal.... the prophecy says that people
will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in
power, will destory everything. Is it OBAMA??

As Snopes so succinctly says, this is another example of misinformation:

Nothing in the Bible — in Revelation or elsewhere — describes the anti-Christ as being "a man, in his 40s, of Muslim descent." In fact, since the book of Revelation was complete by the end of the second century, but the religion of Islam wasn't founded until about four hundred years later, the notion that Revelation would have mentioned a "Muslim" at all is rather far-fetched. (And even if it did, it couldn't be construed as a reference to Barack Obama, since Senator Obama isn't a Muslim.)

The survey of 500 likely New Jersey voters was conducted September 11-14, and had a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.
