In this case, it wasn't because the couple waited to have sex until their wedding night. However, they did wait to have unprotected sex until then. Mike and Julie Boyde married after a two year courtship, and Julie was in unbearable pain after their wedding night.
The pain continued, and sometimes included blisters. After numerous tests the couple were told that Julie suffers from seminal plasma hypersensitivity.
As described,
In a very small number of cases, people have experienced allergic reactions when they touched semen. This is called human seminal plasma hypersensitivity. The symptoms (signs of the medical problem) can either be near the part of the body which touched the semen, or all over the body. They may include itching of the vagina, redness, swelling or blisters within 30 minutes of contact. They may also include itching and hives (large, red, itchy patches) all over the body, and even difficulty breathing. In reality, it doesn't sound any different than any other type of allergy. However, this one can prevent pregnancy, of course, and although it's possible to use IVF, in this case it appeared to fail. Mike and Julie Boyde are looking into adoption.
