Fox made the announcement, on Wednesday night. Ellen DeGeneres on American Idol? I've just lost all respect for her. She will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge on “American Idol” next winter.
The Ellen DeGeneres announcement comes after last month's announcement that Paula Abdul would leave "American Idol." The show's 9th season is scheduled to start in January 2010.
Still, Ellen DeGeneres, "American Idol?" I'm still trying to grasp the concept. I never knew she had much of an interest in singing. On the other hand, despite my prior comment about losing all respect for her, she might add something to the show: snarkiness.
Although Simon Cowell is quite good at skewering contestants, Ellen DeGenerous on "American Idol" might just get me to watch. Nah. But she might come up with some pretty clever putdowns that rather than making people cry, might make them laugh.
Ellen DeGeneres made the "American Idol" announcement herself during a taping of her show. She explained how she was going to approach judging.
“Hopefully, I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it, and I don’t have that technical ... I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.”Watch Ellen's announcement:
