Yesterday, Charles Grassley held a town hall in Pocahontas, IA. Tom Eisenhower, a World War II veteran, stood up and said:
"The president of the United States, that's who you should be concerned about. Because he's acting like a little Hitler. I'd take a gun to Washington if enough of you would go with me."Technically, a threat against the President? No matter what you think of Barack Obama, that's domestic terrorism.
Why did I say Grassley is palling around with them? Well, reports don't seem to indicate Grassley told the guy he was off-base with such a threat. He should have, and many are asking why this guy hasn't been picked up by the Secret Service, at least in a precautionary manner.
At the same time, it's interesting how people keep calling Congressional leaders and Barack Obama both socialists and fascists. Recently Sen. Arlen Spector (D-PA) was told he was a "socialist, fascist pig" for example. Anyone who knows anything about socialism and fascism knows that they are mutually exclusive.
That's why Hitler hated the U.S.S.R., in fact.
Additionally, health care reform has nothing to do with fascism. And finally, let's not forget the still used Islamo-fascist term. Once again, Islam and fascism are mutually exclusive.
The name-calling comes because it's easy to call names. It's harder to be informed and speak calmly and with some real information, such as the fact that 2007 UNICEF statistics show Cuba with a lower infant mortality rate than the U.S., and the same lifespan, based on their Universal Health Care. Meanwhile, the U.K. and Canada both surpass the U.S. in both categories.
