Latest Death Hysteria Over "Death Book"

Death panels? Feh. Now we have Fox News trying to up hysteria over a so-called "death book," that its critic, Jim Towey, the Bush administration’s Director of White House Faith Based Initiatives, says is steering veterans into ending their lives. Interestingly, the "death book" first came into criticism in 2007, under the Bush administration.

Despite this, some are trying to make this about Obama. It has nothing to do with Obama; in fact, the book has already been reviewed and changes are in progress, with a publication date of 2010.

There's a conflict of interest here. Jim Towey has repeatedly tried to get the government to spend millions to purchase his "Five Wishes" book, which is published by Aging With Dignity, a non-profit group he founded, instead of the VA's current book, "Your Life, Your Choices - Planning for Future Medical Decisions."

It is strange that the right continues to view planning for the future, setting up a "living will," which, if you ask your doctor or lawyer, they will whole-heartily agree is a good idea, as pointing to death.

If conservatives really want a "death book," they should watch the anime "Death Note."
